The battle of Wilson's Creek took place Aug. 10, 1861. Brig. Gen. Nathaniel Lyon was the first Union general to die in battle during the Civil War. A 5-mile, self-guiding driving tour passes eight wayside exhibits and 12 displays. A .6-mile hiking trail leads to Bloody Hill, the major battle site.
